SESSION 1 – WORKING WITH COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION COMPANIES
Jennifer Byrne – Head of Development, Somesuch
Currently, Head of Development at production company and creative collective Somesuch in London. Celebrated as a bastion of independent-minded creative and commercial filmmaking. With a diverse roster of exceptional talent including Daniel Wolfe, Kim Gehrig, Leo Leigh and Aoife McCardle. Our videos have been distributed across broadcast channels such as NBC, Channel 4 and the Sundance Channel and on cultural platforms including Vice, Nowness, Dazed Digital, SuperDeluxe and Boiler Room as well as premiering at SXSW amongst other festivals. In the USA we are partners with Anonymous Content (True Detective, Spotlight, The Revenant) and share their roster of directors.
Previously, Head of Video at Dazed Media, which includes the influential magazine titles Dazed, AnOther and Another Man and their respective online platforms. Overseeing strategy for video across all titles. Editorially, commissioning and producing original films across music, art, fashion and documentary, working with a broad range of directors and production companies internationally. Including BAFTA-nominated short samuel-6:13 by Billy Lumby, Lovie Awards winning short Burn Book starring Kendall Jenner and celebrated original TV series Music Nation, with broadcaster partner Channel 4.
SESSION 2 – CREATION FOR THE SMALL SCREEN, PART 1 – THE AGENCY
Matt Diegan – Producer, Just So
Just So is an award winning, full-service production company and agency specialising in true life advertising and branded entertainment that demands attention.
Whether it’s producing epic cinematic documentaries, working with high-profile ambassadors from David Beckham to Le Bron James, or getting feet on the street to find real people and uncover fascinating stories, Just So is a company that creates content narratives with the highest production values that inform, inspire and entertain. Its internationally acclaimed, culturally-centred Black Cab Sessions viral format has been hailed as ‘the saviour of music TV’ by Time Out Magazine and garnered over 50 million views worldwide. It is also behind pioneering short documentary film fund and platform, Postcards in partnership with Sheffield Doc/Fest that provides filmmakers with support to make films that push the boundaries of the genre.
Matt Diegan runs talent development for Just So and is also a producer, recently nominated for Achievement in Production at the British Arrows Craft Awards.
SESSION 3 – CHARITIES AND NOT-FOR-PROFITS: YOUR NEW BEST FRIENDS
Luke W Moody – Director of Film Programming, Sheffield Doc/Fest
Luke W Moody is recently appointed Director of Film Programming at Sheffield Doc/Fest. Until 2016 he was Head of Film at leading independent documentary film fund and think tank BRITDOC. At BRITDOC he worked editorially across the Foundation’s six film funds and managed innovative distribution initiatives for titles such as Oscar-winning CITIZENFOUR and Dirty Wars.
SESSION 4 – CREATION FOR THE SMALL SCREEN, PART 2 – THE BROADCASTER
Pegah Farahmand is the Editor of Random Acts, part of Channel 4’s plan to boost its short-form arts-strand. Farahmand joined the channel from Vice Media where she spent 10 years at the heart of the company’s rapid expansion, producing and directing documentaries with talent such as Spike Jonze, Jonathan Glazer, and Sally Potter, as well overseeing the content from Vice’s many brand partnerships including Google, Ford and Nike. She was the global supervising producer for Vice’s multimedia arts and technology platform The Creators Project, and latterly the company’s Senior Creative Producer.
Farahmand commissions new Random Acts short films, works with Arts Council England’s Random Acts Network centres on shorts from new and emerging talent, oversees the strand’s new web and television platforms, and seeks new partnerships and opportunities to expand Random Acts further.
Farahmand is also the Commissioning Editor for All 4 which curates digital-first content for All 4 and is responsible for commissioning and curating a range of themed collections – incorporating original and acquired short, mid and long-form programmes – which invites viewers to explore different subjects from a variety of angles.
