Astrid and Markus are happy. With a young daughter and successful careers the news of a second child is welcome. Their harmony is shattered when the news comes that their child will be born with a severe disability and they must grapple with the decision of whether or not to terminate the pregnancy. Unflinching and earnest with impressively naturalistic performances, Berrached treats this complex issue with grace and honesty. This poignant film will of course resonate even more strongly here in Ireland amidst the current movement to repeal the eighth amendment. This screening will be followed by a panel discussion.
Speakers for this post-screening will include:
Ann Furedi – CEO of the British Pregnancy Advisory Service and author of The Moral Case for Abortion;
Dr. Mary Favier – Doctors for Choice
Sandra Duffy – Faculty of Law, University College Cork.
