Niki (Nikolay Mashalov), appears to be a typical energetic teenager. His older sister Mila (Mila Mihova) lacks Nikki self-assuredness, and though she is a gifted piano player, she is nervous about playing in public and is nervous about a forthcoming audition. Their father, Todor (Todor Veltchev), is a physics professor and seems unable to address his children’s anxieties. Bulgarian director Ilian Metev made his mark on the international festival circuit with the striking documentary Sofia’s Last Ambulance in 2012. His first fiction feature is a subtle, insightful family portrait which took the top prize in Locarno’s Cinema of the Present section.
