Félicité is a fiercely independent woman proving herself popular as a singer in a bar in Kinshasa. On stage, she transports herself and her audience away from the grinds of daily life, and her infectious sounds lead the crowds to be lost in celebratory revelry. Then one day Félicité’s son has a terrible accident, and she desperately tries to raise the money needed for an operation. Featuring an outstanding performance from Véro Tshanda Beya in the title role, Félicité is a noble social drama enlivened by as eclectic soundtrack that places indigenous rock next to the Kinshasa Symphonic Orchestra’s interpretation of Arvo Pärt.
