Widely considered to be one of Japan’s greatest musicians, Ryuichi Sakamoto’s career has seen him rise from his early days as a founding member of electronic group Yellow Magic Orchestra, to Oscar-winning composer of some of the most iconic film soundtracks for directors such as Bernado Bertolucci, Nagisa Oshima, and more recently Alejandro González Iñárritu. Following a year-long hiatus during which he was treated for throat cancer, Sakamoto returned to music, determined to create an album influenced both by film and the environment. More like a diary than a career overview, Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda acts as a window into the composers’ creative process, applying his past achievements and current passions to his new work, resulting in a meditative, rewarding experience.
