Far from dipping into the archives to pick out old films that we love (although we do love them!) each film is carefully chosen to complement the new work we present, and offers our audience an opportunity to see film classics back in cinemas, such as Jean Cocteau’s Orphée and Hal Ashby’s Being There. A new documentary about Ingmar Bergman demanded that we screen two films by the 20th-century’s most influential filmmakers. The Green Fog, Guy Maddin’s interpretation of Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo presented an opportunity to compare two versions of the same story, while the re-release of 9 to 5 needs no justification – we all need a bit of Dolly in our lives!
