A Dog Barking at the Moon
- This event has passed.
Xiaoyu is a Chinese national living in the USA. Pregnant with her US boyfriend’s child, she returns home to find her mother, Jiumei, still venomously bitter that her husband is secretly gay, and content to take out her ire on her daughter whilst directing all her attention towards a cult-like religious sect. Director Xiang Zi’s beautiful debut feature shines a light on contemporary Chinese society, skipping back and forth through time to piece together the cracks in a family relationship, gradually unfolding to reveal unspoken truths.
