In 1957, Ingmar Bergman turned 39 years old. Already established as a serious figure in world cinema, that year he would release two of his signature masterpieces, The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries. He also wrote and shot Brink of Life, produced two acclaimed stage works, worked in radio and a television and faced upheavals in his personal life. To mark the great auteur’s centenary, Swedish filmmaker Jane Magnusson acknowledges that productive year as a starting point to explore Bergman the man. The result celebrates the genius of his work while presenting a warts-and-all portrait of the complex figure who made it.
