Tina (Eva Melander) is a conscientious customs officer with a special gift for exposing those with something to hide. When sinister Vore (Eero Milonoff) approaches her, she is immediately suspicious and unnerved, though she is drawn into his orbit as Vore encourages Tina to recognise that she does not belong to the world she has worked so hard to adapt to. Based on a short story by the author of Let the Right One In, John Ajvide Lindqvist, Ali Abbasi’s second feature is one of the year’s great discoveries: an extraordinary, highly original work that melds modern Nordic noir with the region’s folklore.
