When shy aspiring writer Jongsu (Yoo Ah-in) comes into the orbit of gorgeous, confident Haemi (Jun Jong-seo), he is quickly drawn to her. He agrees to feed her cat while she takes a trip to Africa, assuming that will bring them closer, but Haemi returns from her travels with affluent, sophisticated boyfriend Ben (Yeun Steven) in tow. The inevitable tension reaches boiling point as fires are started in a Korean border town. Based on a Haruki Murakami short story, Lee Chang-dong’s elegantly crafted film veils intellectual weight and sly social commentary beneath a playful noir sensibility.
