The narrative feature debut from esteemed documentarian and film critic Kent Jones,   Diane   is an authentic and honest character study which explores the intricacies of ageing and the struggle to maintain your selfhood in mid-life. In a masterful lead performance   by Mary Kay Place,   gracious and altruistic caregiver Diane wanders through the frame, a humble and unassuming figure. Weathering personal tragedy, familial woes and the reverberating trauma of addiction, the film cleverly centres its titular character as lynchpin to explore themes of identity and vulnerability, all told from the rarely seen perspective of an older female protagonist.
