Maryam (Susanna Abdulmajid) is an outgoing, indomitable Arab woman living in Germany, a single mother-of-three whose family and job mean she hasn’t found much time for dating. Delivering a package to a prison for a friend, she recognises inmate Jibril (Malik Adan), who she previously met at a wedding. There’s an easy attraction between the two and, over the course of a year, an intense, desirous relationship develops. This superbly acted, daring first fiction feature from Henrika Kull touches on issues of race and class, though at its heart is a captivating love story for the times.
