Alsace in the summer of 1918. Luise lives alone on a remote farm near the French border. One morning she discovers Hélène, a French woman, in her house attempting to escape from an injured German soldier, Hermann. His injury forces Hermann to reluctantly stay on the farm, making him a deserter. Gradually Luise and Hélène get closer to each other, something which does not please Hermann.

Beautifully shot, with the wooded landscape in direct contrast to the claustrophobic cabin, Luise is a tense exploration of love, hate and rivalry. SE
