Jacek (Mateusz Kosciukiewicz) is a thrill-seeking metalhead living in a Polish border town where the only work to be found is on the construction of the world’s largest statue of Jesus. When Jacek suffers a terrible accident, he is nominated as the first person in the country to be given a face transplant. He becomes a media sensation, though his excessive medical bills are a burden for his family and local community, an issue exaggerated by Jacek’s enhanced appearance. Malgorzata Szumowska is establishing herself as a fascinating voice in world cinema and Mug is a wonderfully bizarre satire with bite and brilliance.
