Provincial Argentina in the mid-1970s, and an awkward, comical spat with a stranger (Diego Cremonesi) who insults him in a restaurant will have lasting consequences for respected town lawyer Claudio (Dario Grandinetti). Some months after, as his various shady dealings threaten to become exposed, Claudio is made deeply uncomfortable when he has to face the probing inquisition of Chilean detective Sinclair (Alfredo Castro) who is investigating a missing persons case. A handsomely mounted period thriller featuring some jaw-dropping set pieces, Rojo alludes to Argentina’s painful history of disappearances while a playful wit bubbles beneath its sleek surface throughout.
