‘I love my Muslim neighbor… because s/he deserves love by virtue of her/his human dignity. I stand in human solidarity with my Muslim neighbor… we worship the Same God.’ Conceived as a show of solidarity with the Muslim community, this online post by Dr Larycia Hawkins, accompanied by a photo of herself wearing a hijab, cost her her job at a prestigious evangelical college and ignited a media firestorm. Same God   follows her struggle in the wake of this ‘transgression’, and examines what happens when political and Islamophobic rhetoric stand in opposition to human dignity, compassion and fellowship.
