Based on a true story, two down-on-their-luck musicians (Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson) form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it's never too late to find love and follow your dreams.

Song Sung Blue has the kind of timeless appeal that Hollywood can produce at its best. The Oscar buzz is building up for Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, who both disappear into their roles and at the same time shine as multitalented performers, taking us through emotional rollercoasters and proving that their charisma further multiplies with music instruments in their hands. The film's most undeniable success might indeed be how the love for music runs through it like blood in its veins.

No need to be a Neil Diamond fan to love Song Sung Blue, but if you are the pleasure is intense: his songs surge in different ways through this deeply affecting drama, gently illuminating what the protagonists - and the viewers! - are going through, adding that extra something that gives life experiences a flavour. Sometimes, feelings reach overwhelming peaks and even the blasé teens can’t deny that their parents are not only cool but god-like and that their eyes are wet.

It makes no doubt to us that the filmmaker is the first one to vibrate to these chords and soulful voices, rich with life’s sorrows and glory, and with the poetry only the most intuitive composers can express.
