Catherine (Elizabeth Taylor) is left emotionally disturbed after witnessing the death of her cousin, Sebastian, during the summer vacation. Her scheming rich aunt Violet (Katharine Hepburn), fearing Catherine may reveal the truth about her son’s death, wishes for her niece to undergo a lobotomy, using her wealth to coax gifted surgeon Dr John Cukrowicz (Montgomery Clift) into performing the operation. Directed by Joseph L Mankiewicz (All About Eve, Cleopatra) and adapted by Gore Vidal from a play by Pulitzer-winning Tennessee Williams, we’re delighted to present this screening of what Empire magazine called ‘one of the most deliciously overripe writing combinations in film history’.
