The Piano

We are celebrating 30 years since Jane Campion was the first female and first New Zealand director to win Le Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for her period drama The Piano.

The story follows Scottish woman Ada, a mute pianist who arrives in New Zealand to be married to a local man but instead of accepting the arranged marriage develops feelings for the Maori acquaintance of her husband. The Piano won also three Academy Awards® (for both main actresses) and brought Campion international fame. AK
