Sinan (Aydin Doğu Demirkol) returns to his village near the Turkish port of Çanakkale after finishing his studies. He dreams of becoming a celebrated author, though he is weighed down by issues he has with his family and the place he grew up. As he contemplates becoming a teacher like his father and getting his military service out of the way, he is in danger of becoming consumed by his vanity and cynicism. Evocatively reflecting on how the choices a young person makes can affect the rest of their life, the latest from master filmmaker Nuri Bilge Ceylan is typically humane, beautiful and life-affirming.
