Cork International Film Festival announces attendance of An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, TD at Awards Gala Presentation on Saturday November 15th in The Everyman Theatre

Landmark 70th Festival continues until Sunday 16th November across Cork city and county with exclusive Irish premieres

Cork International Film Festival is delighted to announce the attendance of An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin TD at the Festival’s Awards Gala ceremony on Saturday night in The Everyman Theatre.  An Taoiseach will be present for the Awards, which include Best New Irish Feature Award, sponsored by The Irish Examiner; Spiorad na Féile (Spirit of the Festival: Best Film and Best Screenplay); Gradam na Féile do Scannáin Faisnéise (Award for Best Documentary); and the prestigious Eurimages’ Audentia Award for a female filmmaker, worth €30,000; with other awards also to be announced on the evening.

The Festival continues strongly throughout its final weekend, with tonight’s Irish premiere Documentary Gala of Shoot The People about renowned photographer and activist Misan Harriman (Everyman); the Awards Gala Irish premiere on Saturday 15th of the highly anticipated star-studded Song Sung Blue, starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson in a heartfelt and uplifting tale of a Neil Diamond tribute band; and the Closing Gala presentation on Sunday 16th, another Irish premiere, the third film from director Bradley Cooper – Is This Thing On? – which is loosely based on the life of stand up comedian John Bishop, which will send audiences home on a high.

The popular Super Cine Saturday takes place at cinemas across Cork county on Saturday 15th November, where audiences can enjoy a curated programme of Festival archive films, IFI Cork on Camera, and the 2025 Palme d’Or winner from Jafar Panahi, It Was Just An Accident, in Bantry, Macroom and Youghal.

The Irish Examiner proudly supports the Best New Irish Feature Award, which showcases acclaimed Irish filmmakers and films which are either fully Irish in story and production or in collaboration with talent from across the world. In addition to Saipan, feature films included this year are: Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon; Dennis Harvey and Lars Lovén’s Celtic Utopia; Brendan Canty’s world premiere documentary Gealtra and Akinola Davies Jr’s My Father’s Shadow.

The Family strand concludes with a screening for younger film fans, with live narration by actor and writer Hilary Rose in Tales from the Magic Garden (Sat 15th, Everyman).

All tickets are on sale now at corkfilmfest.org and the MyCIFF app.

The 70th Cork International Film Festival continues until Sunday 16th of November, 2025. For more information and to view the full programme, and to stay up to date with the latest news and programme announcements, visit corkfilmfest.org.
