It’s February already and there’s a hint of spring in the air. We are also one month closer to the 67th Cork International Film Festival this November and are excited to share festival and film news and opportunities as we continue preparation for CIFF2022.
CIFF2021 Documentary Gala and Festival highlight The Dance by esteemed Cork filmmaker Pat Collins is opening in cinemas today. Youth Film Festival takes place from 9th to 12th March and we are pleased to be Digital Partner once again on this festival dedicated to showcasing young filmmakers. Docs Ireland Marketplace, an opportunity for filmmakers to meet with leading international documentary industry decision-makers place during Docs Ireland 4, is open for applications.
As awards season gets underway, we are thrilled to see nominations at the 2022 EE British Academy Film Awards and Academy® Awards for titles that had their Irish premiere at CIFF2021 and Irish film talent.

CIFF2021 Documentary Gala and Festival hit, The Dance by acclaimed filmmaker Pat Collins opens in cinemas today, Friday 11th February. The documentary follows world-renowned choreographer Michael Keegan-Dolan as he works on MÁM, a thrilling new dance and theatre production. FIRST CUT! AND DOCS IRELAND
CIFF is delighted to be Digital Partner once again with the First Cut! Youth Film Festival, an annual event dedicated to showcasing new films by young filmmakers (aged 12 – 24) which takes place 9th – 12th March in cinema and online. CIFF will present a specially curated programme of short films for young people from last November’s Festival. The full 2022 programme of screenings, workshops, and talks will be announced very soon.

Applications are now open for the third edition of the Docs Ireland Marketplace.
The Docs Ireland Marketplace is an opportunity for filmmakers to meet on a one-to-one basis with leading international documentary industry decision-makers, including international funders, broadcasters, distributors, and exhibitors. It will take place during Docs Ireland 4 (29th June – 3rd July). View the 2021 Marketplace projects here.

FEBRUARY HIGHLIGHTS
We are thrilled to see that CIFF2021 films such as our Opening Gala Ali & Ava, Boiling Point, Titane, Flee, Petite Maman, and Cow have been nominated for multiple awards in the 75th EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs).The 94th Academy® Awards nominations were announced this week and include Irish film talent and CIFF2021 films. Flee made Oscar® history by being the first film to receive three nominations, for Animated Feature Film, Documentary (Feature), and International Feature Film. The Eyes of Tammy Faye received nominations for Actress in a Leading Role (Jessica Chastain) and Makeup and Hairstyling.We wish them all the best of luck.
Our Festival Programmers are busy attending film festivals virtually, including the recent 51st International Film Festival Rotterdam and the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). Our programmers will be attending more returning festivals in the coming months such as the 75th Cannes Film Festival, from 17th to 28th May, where we look forward to seeing and selecting the very best of European and international cinema to bring to Cork in November.We wish everyone at the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival the very best in their 20th Festival which opens Wednesday, 23rd February, and happy 20th anniversary.
