Happy New Year from everyone at Cork International Film Festival, we hope you had a peaceful and relaxing break over Christmas. We can’t wait to share with you our exciting plans for events and films throughout 2022 and as we prepare for another ambitious, innovative, and diverse Festival, our 67th edition, in November.
If you are looking to submit a film to CIFF2022, our submissions are open and you can enter now via Film Freeway. Avail of discounted fees by submitting by our early bird deadline of Friday, 11th March.
Our friends at First Cut! Youth Film Festival, which showcases new films by young filmmakers, are currently accepting submissions. Young filmmakers (aged 12 – 24) are invited to submit a short film by Friday, 21st January. The 13th festival takes place 9th – 12th March.
Fresh International Film Festival is open for Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year submissions, and make sure to catch the First Fortnight Mental Health Art & Culture Festival being held across Ireland until Sunday 16th January.
Later this month CIFF is delighted to partner once again with the Embassy of France in Ireland as part of their Night of Ideas programme by presenting a digital screening on Thursday, 27th January. Programme and booking details will be announced next week.

Finally, this month marks the 70th anniversary of the first meeting of the newly established Arts Council, our Principal Funder. We also wish a happy 20th birthday to our Media Partner, Cork’s Red FM. Many congratulations to both, and we look forward to continuing to work successfully with them in the many years to come.

CIFF2022 Submissions are officially open.
Cork International Film Festival welcomes submissions of features and shorts, and all forms of film production – from fiction and documentary to animation and experimental. We look for interesting new voices and work that pushes boundaries and takes risks. We champion and celebrate excellence in filmmaking throughout our diverse and ambitious programme. We also recognise filmmakers’ achievements through our 10 Awards, three of which are Academy Award® qualifying.
We look forward to receiving your new and inspiring features, documentaries, and short films.

FIRST CUT! YOUTH FILM FESTIVAL: OPEN CALL 2022
CIFF partner, First Cut! Youth Film Festival is accepting film submissions from young filmmakers until Friday, 21st January.
Filmmakers aged between 12 and 24 years are invited to submit a short film of less than 15 minutes, from any genre, with no entry fee. Successful films will be screened during First Cut! Youth Film Festival, 9th – 12th March. The 13th edition will be a blended festival with both in-person and online events. It will offer its usual rich programme of screenings, workshops and talks in a safe and inclusive environment.

JANUARY HIGHLIGHTS
The 25th Fresh International Film Festival is open for Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year submissions.
All types of films are accepted such as comedy, horror, drama, documentary, music video, and animation. The Festival takes place 28th March – 2nd April.
Deadline: Friday, 4th February
Crawford Art Gallery is a part of this year’s First Fortnight Mental Health Arts & Culture Festival with a creative class from Artist Annie Mar. The Gallery also currently has innovative exhibitions such as Artists’ Film International | 2021 | Part Two, a collaborative project featuring film, video, and animation from around the world, available until Sunday, 23rd January.
WHAT TO WATCH FILMS IN CORK – JANUARY 2022
There are some great films to choose from at our venue partner, The Gate Cinemas this January.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza, Joel Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, along with Spider-Man: No Way Home, Scream, The 355 and Clifford the Big Red Dog provide a wide variety of films for everyone to enjoy. Book Now
Throughout January, the Triskel Arts Centre will be screening CIFF2021 Festival hits such as Valdimar Jóhannsson’s Lamb, Julia Ducournau’s Titane, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Memoria. MEMORIA IN CINEMAS & COMPETITION (NOW CLOSED)
In November 2021, Cork International Film Festival was thrilled to present the Irish premiere of acclaimed director Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s exceptional film Memoria.
To celebrate its cinema release in Ireland from Friday, 14th January, CIFF has teamed up with Sovereign Films to give away 2 PAIRS OF TICKETS to any Memoria in-cinema screening coming up (see below) and a MEMORIA FILM POSTER.
