CIFF Look@Me Project with Cork Migrant Centre Receives Rethink Ireland Support

Jul 03, 2025 |
News

Cork International Film Festival has been awarded funding from Rethink Ireland to support the Look@Me youth filmmaking project in partnership with Cork Migrant Centre.

This vital support from Rethink Ireland will enable us to expand the impact of the Look@Me project and reach more young people than ever before. The Impact Fund for Munster 2024 is a €672,000 one-year fund supporting organisations in Munster dedicated to driving sustainable environmental and social development, supporting initiatives that work with marginalised communities to help make Munster a greener, more inclusive region.

The fund was created in partnership with donors from the Munster region, including Tomar Trust, EI Electronics, Sunflower Community Foundation, the Parkes Family Limerick, and a private donor. Their donations were matched by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht through the Dormant Accounts Fund.

Based at Nano Nagle Place, Cork Migrant Centre (CMC) works with asylum seekers, refugees, migrants and local communities to promote inclusion, empowerment and equality. Their youth programmes focus on creativity, mentorship and self-expression, creating safe spaces where young people can explore identity and build confidence. Look@Me builds on a long-standing collaboration between CIFF and CMC, exploring how film can be used using as a tool to help young people find and use their voices.

Launching on Sat 12 Jun 2025, Look@Me is a six-week summer programme for young people aged 13–21 and their mentors, delivered as part of Cork Migrant Centre’s vibrant summer camp. Led by professional filmmakers and educators, the project offers a powerful opportunity for young people from diverse backgrounds to share their stories, build skills, and connect with their peers through film.

Each Saturday, participants will engage in creative workshops exploring storyboarding, scriptwriting, planning, costume and set design, under the guidance of professional filmmakers Max Le Cain and Chris Hurley. They will then put the theory into practice, shooting and editing their short film, exploring green screen work, acting and voiceovers in the process before a collaborative editing and feedback session.

The finished films will be celebrated at a Premiere Showcase during the 70th Cork International Film Festival in Nov 2025, with an additional community screening at Cork Migrant Centre for families, friends and the wider community.

We’re excited to bring this project to life in 2025 and to continue working with our partners at Cork Migrant Centre to support the next generation of creative talent.
