Programme 1 of our Online Festival ends at midnight but don’t worry, Programme 2 is coming right up. From 00:01 on Tuesday 16th to 23:59 on Thursday 18th November, you can enjoy 12 new features and shorts programmes anywhere across Ireland.
We have free online Industry events this week for those interested in working in documentary film. Our Trail of Discovery is also running throughout Cork City until 21st November. Make sure to tag us in any Trail photos and to enter our competition.

ONLINE PROGRAMME 2: 16th – 18th NOVEMBER FEATURES
We’re delighted to present Programme 2 of our Online Festival which showcases a diverse selection Irish and international features, documentaries and shorts that will be available from Tuesday 16th to Thursday 18th November. So, put your feet up and relax with these Festival favourites.
Films in Programme 2 include: In the Mirror of Maya Deren, The Ants and The Grasshopper + Panel Discussion, Brother’s Keeper, The Hive + Panel Discussion, Heaven’s Above and the CIFF Gradam na Féile do Scannáin Faisnéise (Award for Cinematic Documentary) winner 2021, This Rain Will Never Stop.
The Ants and The Grasshopper and The Hive include post-screening panel discussions, and Brother’s Keeper is accompanied by a Director Q&A.

Our online programmes include post-screening Q&As and Panel Discussions that took place during the physical Festival allowing you to enjoy the full Festival experience from the comfort of your sofa. Here are the highlights showing in Programme 2 (Tuesday – Thursday):
Brother’s Keeper + Q&A with director Ferit Karahan
Yusuf and his friend Memo are pupils at a school for Kurdish boys in the remote Anatolian mountains. It is the coldest days of winter and the school heating has broken down. One morning Memo falls ill and, despite the extreme conditions, Yusuf struggles against the school’s authoritarian regime to help his friend. Ferit Karahan’s gripping drama highlights Yusuf’s determination in the face of adversity (whilst gradually revealing the events which led to the situation), and effortlessly keeps the tension high throughout.
The Hive + Panel
Christophe Hermans’ debut feature is a superbly paced tale of a young family struggling to live with a parent’s mental illness. The film is followed by a discussion with a panel of speakers, who will explore the themes of the film and how they relate to mental health. Speakers include Dr. Johnny Goodwin (Mental Health Nursing Undergraduate Programme Lead, School of Nursing and Midwifery, UCC), Orla Bushnell (Clinical Nurse Specialist/Systemic Family Therapist in Adult Mental Health) and John Finn (Social Worker).
The Ants and The Grasshopper + Panel
This documentary follows Anita Chitaya, a knowledgeable Malawian woman who can extract abundant food from dead soil and end child hunger in her home village, on a journey to California and the White House, trying to persuade Americans that climate change is real and a threat not only to her homeland but to the United States too. This screening will be followed by a panel discussion.
The panellists include Raj Patel (director), Dr. Edward Lahiff (lecturer in International Development at UCC), Mary Sweeney (Inclusion Advisor, Self Help Africa) and Hannah Daly (lecturer in Sustainable Energy and Energy Systems Modelling at UCC) and moderated by Ella McSweeney, journalist.

aemi: Artist in Focus: Lynne Sachs
Making work since the 1980s Lynne Sachs’ films have incorporated a cross-pollination of forms that extend to the essay film, documentary, collage, performance, and poetry. aemi is delighted to present this overview of selected short works by Lynne Sachs at Cork International Film Festival, many of which are screening in Ireland for the first time.

FREE INDUSTRY EVENT: DOC DAY ONLINE TUESDAY, 16TH NOVEMBER
CIFF continues to develop its focus on high-quality Irish and international documentary cinema with Doc Day Online, connecting emerging and established non-fiction filmmakers with industry professionals and the wider documentary sector, with the objective of helping to inform, inspire and develop opportunities within the global documentary landscape.
Doc Day will profile a keynote presentation from US documentarian Dawn Porter (above left), include a case study centred around the documentary feature film Lyra (which screened at this year’s CIFF; above right), and explore subjects including the process of editing for feature documentary film with focus on another of this year’s CIFF docs, Roadrunner: A Film about Anthony Bourdain.
The event will take place online on Tuesday,16th November and will be available for catch-up on the CIFF online platform until the end of November.
