FALLEN LEAVES (KUOLLEET LEHDET)
Winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival, Fallen Leaves is a heartwarming, charming treat from the master of Finnish dark comedies, Aki Kaurismäki, telling the story of two lonely strangers who, against all odds, meet and found love. (8.30pm, Sun 12th Nov, The Everyman)
“It’s romantic and sweet-natured, in a deadpan style that in no way undermines or ironises the emotions involved and with some sharp things to say about contemporary politics.” The Guardian
Also screening as part of Super Cine Saturday – The Reel Picture Ballincollig & Blackpool; Cinemax Bantry; Gate Cinemas Midleton & Mallow; and Regal Cinema Youghal (Sat 25th Nov).
Shortlisted for the 2024 LUX Audience Award
OPENING WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS: THE UNITED IRISHMEN + DIRECTOR Q&A
With a grandeur and epic sweep rarely seen in historical documentaries, Alan Gilsenan’s The United Irishmen brings the radical spirit of 1798 Patriots to life. Yet, this film isn’t just a trip down memory lane. It skillfully questions notions of history and memory, offering not just enlightenment but also unexpectedly stirring emotions. (6pm, Sun 12th Nov, Triskel)
Director Alan Gilsenan will partake in a special post-screening Q&A with CIFF Senior Programmer Don O’Mahony.

DISCOVERY CHOICE: ROBOT DREAMS
Robot Dreams, the first animated feature from Spanish filmmaker Pablo Berger (Blancanieves), adapted from Sara Varon’s graphic novel, is one of the loveliest films of the year.
In bustling 1980s New York, a furry resident of a Manhattan apartment, Dog, grows tired of solitude and crafts a robotic friend. Dog and Robot forge a fast friendship, delighting in their joint escapades around the Big Apple. However, a beach mishap separates them. Can fate bring them back together?
(3pm, Sun 12th Nov, The Everyman)
Also screening as part of Super Cine Saturday – The Reel Picture Ballincollig & Blackpool; Cinemax Bantry; Gate Cinemas Midleton & Mallow; and Regal Cinema Youghal (Sat 25th Nov).
