The 1970s. Jeanne, a 15-year-old orphan, witnesses the shoot for a film adaptation of the fairy tale The Snow Queen and she falls under the spell of its star, the enigmatic Cristina (Marion Cotillard), an actress who is just as mysterious and alluring as the Queen she is playing. A mutual fascination grows between the actress and the girl. Colder than ice, the Snow Queen’s kiss pierces the heart…

A spellbinding fable of obsession and enchantment by visionary director Lucile Hadžihalilovic, who reunites here with Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard, beautiful and dangerous as sadly she glances down from her ivory tower.

On Thursday13 November, this film will be presented with Closed Captions.

This screening is supported by the French Embassy in Ireland, Goethe-Institut Irland and Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Dublino.

Cork International Film Festival is delighted to return to its Principal Venue, The Arc Cinema on North Main St, Cork, for its 70th Festival edition, Thursday 6th to Sunday 16th November 2025.

The Arc Cinema Cork is home to The GATE Screen — a space dedicated to preserving and celebrating the legacy of the beloved former Gate Cinema — and an ideal spot for meeting fellow festival goers in between screenings. The GATE Screen features luxurious double sofa seats and tables, creating an intimate and sophisticated viewing experience. It is dedicated to showcasing arthouse films, including independent and local productions, foreign and Irish language titles throughout the year.
