Our Festival programmers recently returned from a busy week of exciting films, new discoveries and fruitful conversations at the 74th Berlinale in Germany. As planning for our 69th edition continues, we have exciting events and opportunities lined up for March.
Fear Screen: European Thrillers and Horrors at CIFF kicks off at 8pm this evening at the Triskel, Cork with the chilling Eyes Without a Face. Book your tickets or buy a season pass now to catch all four films this month. We will also present a free online programme celebrating Irish filmmaking talent during St. Patrick’s Festival.
There are film opportunities for all ages, including CIFF Young Programmers for 18-24 year olds and Element Pictures’ Storyhouse Lab for emerging and established screenwriters. The Early Bird Deadline to submit films to the 69th CIFF and avail of discounted entry fees is this Saturday, 9th March 2024.
FEAR SCREEN: STARTS TONIGHT
Have you got your tickets for Fear Screen: European Thrillers and Horrors at CIFF yet? Our curated season of gripping tales – showing every Thursday at 8pm throughout March at the Triskel – opens with Georges Franju’s spine-tingling, 1960 classic Eyes Without a Face, 8pm this evening.
Avail of season passes, concession and discounted tickets/passes for under 25s. Festival Friends can also avail of discounts on tickets of up 20%.
EARLY BIRD SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE – SATURDAY 9th MARCH
Avail of discounted submission fees by submitting your film to the 69th CIFF by our Early Bird deadline of Saturday, 9th March. Submit now via the online submission platform FilmFreeway. The regular deadline is Friday, 17th May.
CELEBRATE ST PATRICK’S DAY WITH FREE IRISH SHORT FILMS
In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, CIFF is showcasing Irish filmmaking talent through a free online programme featuring a selection of Irish and Cork short films from the latest Festival edition in November 2023.
Enthusiasts of Irish culture from across the country are invited to experience a collection of cinematic delights, available to watch online for free from 10am Friday, 15th to midnight Monday, 18th March. Free but ticketed.
CALL OUT: YOUNG PROGRAMMERS
Cork International Film Festival is delighted to announce the return of our Young (Film) Programmers training project.
We are looking for four young cinephiles interested in joining the CIFF2024 team as part of our Young (Film) Programmers Project. Under the tutelage of CIFF’s Programming Team, a panel of four young people will learn about the curatorial process of film festivals, developing a comprehensive understanding of festival programming, from screener to screening, along with marketing, licensing and distribution, event management and networking.

INTINN @ FIRST CUT! YOUTH FILM FESTIVAL
Earlier this week, CIFF was thrilled to collaborate with First Cut! Youth Film Festival’s in presenting our free Intinn Youth Film & Mental Health Programme to Transition Year students in Youghal for the first time.
Supported by Community Foundation Ireland through the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal, we were delighted to welcome the TY students and their teachers to the Regal Cinema. They watched a short film screening – Subsurface directed by Daniel John Harris – which was followed by a mental health and wellbeing workshop presented by Dr Johnny Goodwin, UCC School of Nursing & Midwifery.
First Cut! Youth Film Festival is taking place in Youghal until Saturday 9th March, and includes a CIFF-curated shorts programme for young people and the presentation of a Cork International Film Festival Award to a young filmmaker as part of the First Cut! Awards this Saturday, 9th March.

Local EYEs bring the unique experience of the EYE (European Youth Event) to Europe’s cities and regions, offering young people across the continent the opportunity to meet other young people, inspire one another and exchange ideas with experts, activists and decision-makers. Call for participants: Anyone between 16-30 years old can join the activities, discuss key issues and share ideas on the future of Europe.
Local EYEs are co-funded and supported by the European Parliament.
STORYHOUSE is a new annual festival that cultivates and celebrates the art of storytelling for the screen which will be held in Dublin’s Light House Cinema on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd March. Emerging and established screenwriters are invited to apply for STORYHOUSE LAB, an inclusive professional development programme, running in parallel with the main event. STORYHOUSE LAB sessions will take place over four days from Wednesday 20th to Saturday 23rd March.
