Cork International Film Festival is delighted to partner with First Cut! Youth Film Festival for its 15th edition, 4th – 9th March 2024, at the beautiful Regal Cinema in Youghal, Co. Cork.
Building on our longstanding partnership, CIFF is joining forces with First Cut! once again to present a specially curated Irish and international shorts programme, the ‘First Cut Youth Film Festival 2024 Cork International Film Festival Award’, and for the first time, collaborate with First Cut! to present CIFF’s Intinn Youth Film & Mental Health Programme in Youghal with the support of Community Foundation Ireland.

Supported by the Community Foundation of Ireland through the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal, Cork International Film Festival is delighted to collaborate with First Cut! Youth Film Festival to present a new free Intinn programme for the first time, as part of the 2024 First Cut! Youth Film Festival.
Four in-person Intinn sessions will be available in Youghal on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th March for schools to book directly by contacting intinn@firstcutfilmfestival.com. Each session will consist of a short-film screenings and related wellbeing workshop led by Dr. John Goodwin, Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, UCC.

The Immeasurable Grief of the Prawn (Elinor O’Donovan) – Ireland, 2023
A cook serves a vegetarian a prawn curry. Three friends discuss the shortcomings of memory. Two squirrels ponder the ethical quandaries of eating a prawn sanga. Meanwhile, on the sea-floor, The Prawn performs a funerary ritual for its brethren.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Don O’Mahony with filmmaker Elena Horgan and a key participant in Canine, Rory Hennebry.

The 2024 First Cut! Youth Film Festival Awards will be announced and presented on Saturday 9th March at 8pm in The Regal Cinema. We are thrilled to once again present the ‘First Cut Youth Film Festival 2024 Cork International Film Festival Award’ in 2024. Winning filmmakers receive a beautiful award statuette designed and created by talented West Cork Metal Artist Paddy McCormack.
First Cut! Youth Film Festival is an annual event based in Youghal, Co. Cork and is dedicated to showcasing new films by young filmmakers. It presents films in all genres by individual filmmakers, schools and youth groups as well as offering workshops and talks by film industry professionals. First Cut! will offer its usual rich programme of screenings, workshops and talks in Youghal’s Regal Cinema with online programmes to reach a global audience.
