Fantastique
Fanta, a 14-year-old Guinean contortionist, juggles between care for her mom, school and what she loves the most – training as one of the only girls in an acrobatic group. Trying to bridge all expectations, Fanta starts to doubt what it is she really wants. Does she want to redouble efforts and join group’s tour, or move on from her childhood’s passion? A tender look at the age when one starts to make big decisions.
Dutch filmmaker Marjolijn Prins cleverly composes a hybrid film between fiction and documentary, hand in hand with the supremely gifted, luminous young Fanta. An inspiring portrait for all ages, perhaps especially for the young people who are asking themselves questions about their transition to adulthood, and what do do about their hobbies, which are perhaps more than just hobbies.
This film is eligible for the Best Documentary Award/Gradam na Féile do Scannáin Faisnéise.
