Farming is Medicine
What do health and poverty, colonialism and climate change, farming and medicine have in common? This compelling documentary reveals how these seemingly separate issues are in fact deeply intertwined, and the escalating health crises affecting both people and the planet stem from the same unjust societal systems.
Featuring Dr. Rupa Marya, Adjunct Professor of Land, Farming, and Medicine at Trinity College Dublin and co-author of Inflamed: Deep Medicine and the Anatomy of Injustice; Walter Riley, esteemed civil rights attorney and activist; and Benjamin Fahrer, the farmer and engineer behind the largest rooftop farm west of the Mississippi, the film explores what becomes possible when communities come together to heal the legacies of colonialism through food, medicine, storytelling, restoration, and collective learning.
Event: Post-screening discussion & late lunch | Izz Café 13-14 George's Quay, Ballintemple, Cork
A landmark report on food and health estimates that about 40,000 lives a day could be saved with a food system based on care of the earth and care of people. Farming is Medicine demonstrates a model of that system in California, where agroecological farmers, Indigenous people, doctors, policy makers and community groups work together to innovate farms that bring health to people and the ecosystem. Now that work is being brought to Ireland, in partnership with Talamh Beo, Trinity College Dublin Schools of Medicine and Ecology and a whole host of groups working in climate, health and justice. Join Dr. Rupa Marya and Oliver Moore for the screening and a discussion about Farming is Medicine in Ireland.
Continue the conversation at our post-screening gathering at Izz Café, with shared platters of Mana’eesh served with traditional Palestinian side dishes and a sweet treat to finish.
