Peak Everything (Amour Apocalypse)
An unusual romantic comedy sneaked into our Screen Green strand. A delightful, surprising love story, set in the backdrop of the approaching climate apocalypse.
Adam is a kind-hearted, hypersensitive kennel-owner. To help combat his climate anxiety, Adam orders a therapeutic solar lamp. Through the lamp’s supplier's technical support line, he meets Tina, a radiant woman with a voice that soothes all of his worries. This unexpected encounter changes everything: Earth trembles, and hearts explode…
In another brilliant example - albeit in a completely different way - of the crossover between climate issues and mental health (see Climate in Therapy), Anne Émond couldn't be more limpid, with the film's original title Amour Apocalypse, about this apparently simple yet fundamental questioning: how can humans, who can be so easily overwhelmed by small things (especially if romantic feelings are involved), handle something as big as the planet’s climatic shift? And, reversely, could extreme circumstances rid us of our hesitation to say what we really mean to say and do what we always wanted to do?
The screening on Sunday 9 November will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker.

This film is eligible for the Audentia Award.
This screening is supported by the Embassy of Canada in Ireland.
