The Currents (Las Corrientes)
At the height of her career, Lina, a 34-year-old Argentine stylist, is driven by a sudden impulse after an award ceremony in Switzerland. She survives a fall in icy waters, and when returning to her family in Buenos Aires, she says nothing. But something in her has shifted - quiet and invisible, it subtly unravels a past she thought she had left behind.
Milagros Mumenthaler’s superb and delicate third feature immerses us in Lina’s haunting journey inside a fractured inner world where memory, trauma and motherhood collide. Subtle but precise touches add up to help us understand Lina and her deep-seated fears and rebellious urges. The Currents is incredibly beautiful, with its colourful, tactile images echoing in your mind long after their appearance triggers something that, like they do for Lina, might awaken deep, and perhaps repressed emotions.

This film is eligible for the Audentia Award.
