The Secret Agent (O Agente Secreto)
Brazil, 1977. The final years of the military dictatorship. Marcelo, a university professor in his 40s, is on the run from political persecution. He arrives in Recife during carnival week, hoping to reunite with his son. Little does he know that he is being tailed from São Paolo and that the neighbours in his new refuge may not all be who they seem.
One of the most universally admired films of the year, The Secret Agent was showered in awards at the Cannes Film Festival : Best Director, Best Actor for the excellent Wagner Moura, FIPRESCI Prize (Critics’ Choice), Art House Cinema Award. All deserved and indeed, together, clearly designating the film as a must-see wherever it is screened.
Cork International Film Festival is delighted to return to its Principal Venue, The Arc Cinema on North Main St, Cork, for its 70th Festival edition, Thursday 6th to Sunday 16th November 2025.
