Feast or Famine
At East London restaurant Angelina, a young team of chefs and owners sets its sights on the ultimate culinary accolade: a Michelin star. Alongside their story, legendary chef Marco Pierre White reflects on his own extraordinary relationship with the Michelin system, raising questions about ambition, recognition and the price of success.
Adrian Choa and Michael Boccalini’s Feast or Famine goes behind the mythology of the Michelin star to explore what it means to devote a life to the pursuit of recognition. At its centre is Angelina, an ambitious East London restaurant whose young team faces the extraordinary pressures of trying to reach the highest level of professional dining, alongside the very different perspective of Marco Pierre White, who famously surrendered his three stars.
Most affecting are the moments when the film simply stays with the chefs at work, revealing the personal cost behind professional ambition. Brendan Harvey’s cinematography captures both the intensity of service and the seductive beauty of the food.
