Mouse
Callie and Minnie’s relationship is suddenly upended at the start of the summer before their senior year of high school. As Minnie begins to navigate a new and uncertain reality, she forms an unlikely connection with Callie’s mother (Sophie Okonedo).
Set in the summer of 2002, Mouse is an intimate and deeply absorbing portrait of friendship, grief and growing up, capturing the strange, messy process of learning who you are in the face of an unwanted redefinition of the world around you and its boundaries.
Katherine Mallen Kupferer and Sophie Okonedo bring extraordinary subtlety, humour and emotional depth to their characters. And with the film’s sun-soaked Arkansas setting, evocative period detail and beautifully observed relationships, directors Kelly O'Sullivan and Alex Thompsonfilm draw us into Minnie’s world with remarkable immediacy.
Mouse is a moving, often funny and wholly enthralling viewing experience—tender without sentimentality, authentic and emotionally complex without ever losing its warmth.
This is a Relaxed Screening, meaning that it is appropriate for young people with sensory sensitivities and their families.
