    Summer is here (if you ignore the rain) and May brings a variety of opportunities and updates from Ireland’s first and largest film festival.

    Secure your tickets today for a curated selection of film shorts celebrating the cream of European filmmaking talent to mark Europe Day on 9th May. We are also thrilled to welcome Aurélie Godet as our new Director of Programming. Aurélie, who joined the team last month, will be attending the forthcoming 77th Festival de Cannes, scouting for the latest and best films from around the world to bring to audiences first in Cork this November.

    EUROPE DAY AT CIFF

    CIFF is excited to present a specially curated selection of European short films in celebration of Europe Day 2024. On Thursday, 9th May, viewers can enjoy three different programmes: an in-cinema screening at The Arc Cinema Cork starting at 6.15pm; an online shorts programme; and a family-oriented online shorts programme (accessible nationwide from 6pm on Thursday, 9th May until 6pm on Saturday, 11th May).

    Europe Day at Cork International Film Festival is supported by the Communicating Europe Initiative from the Department of Foreign Affairs.

    CIFF DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMING ANNOUNCEMENT

    Aurélie Godet, an esteemed film programmer with a rich background in international film festivals, has recently joined CIFF as Director of Programming.

    Most recently, Aurélie was a senior programmer at the Berlinale and at the Locarno Film Festival, among others. She notably initiated the first international film festival in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and served as the Deputy Director of Unifrance’s New York office.

    In her new role at CIFF, Aurélie will lead the development and execution of the festival’s artistic policy and programming ambitions, significantly shaping the future of Ireland’s premier film festival as it approaches its 70th edition in 2025.

    CIFF2024 REGULAR SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE: FRIDAY, 17th MAY

    The Regular Submissions Deadline for the 69th edition of the Cork International Film Festival (CIFF) is quickly approaching.

    As Ireland’s premiere and largest film festival, CIFF invites submissions across all genres, including fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental films. The festival honours filmmakers with 12 distinct awards, such as the Best New Irish Feature Award (supported by the Irish Examiner) and three Oscar®-qualifying awards for short films.

    Regular Submission Deadline: Friday, 17th May.

    OPEN CALL: PARALLAX EMERGING FILM ARTIST AWARD

    Apply now for the Parallax Emerging Film Artist Award, which provides a €5,000 bursary, a 12-month Associate Membership at Sample-Studios, studio space at the National Sculpture Factory, and an opportunity for a solo exhibition at The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion during the 70th CIFF in November 2025.

    Launched in 2022, this distinctive Award aims to discover, support, and showcase graduate film artists from Irish fine art tertiary education institutions, representsing a collaborative effort among Cork International Film Festival, the National Sculpture Factory, and Sample-Studios.

    Application Deadline: Friday, 21st June.

    BAFTA Albert x BFI Feature Documentary Workshop

    The Sustainable Documentary Film Training workshop (14th May), funded by the BFI National Lottery Sustainable Screen Fund, equips filmmakers with the tools to produce feature-length documentaries in an environmentally friendly manner. This interactive session encourages participants to discuss common sustainability ‘roadblocks’ in their work and aims to foster a solution-centric, optimistic approach to environmental challenges in the film industry.
