A Man's Skin (Peau d'Homme)
A wickedly irreverent musical comedy bursting with colour, daring humour and sexual intrigue, A Man's Skin gives the medieval fairy tale a gloriously modern twist. Set in 1480, Princess Blanche is devastated when her father arranges her marriage to coarse commander Melchior.
Her godmother (Catherine Deneuve) offers an extraordinary solution: a mysterious skin that can transform Blanche into a man, allowing her to meet her future husband incognito and discover that he is, in fact... gay!
Adapted from Hubert and Zanzim’s acclaimed graphic novel, this exuberant tale is a dazzling feat of filmmaking from Léa Domenach, balancing romance, comedy and social commentary. Its sumptuous colours, irresistible songs and playful choreography make for a joyous homage to the musical fantasies of Jacques Demy, while its sharp, witty dialogue gives the film a distinctly contemporary edge.
Led by celebrated French singer Pomme, with Deneuve bringing her unmistakable presence to a daring and deliciously unexpected key role, A Man's Skin is by turns hilarious, tender and exhilarating. With its playful subversion of gender roles and conventions of desire, it transforms a medieval fable into a sparkling, liberating celebration of identity, love and the freedom to become who you are.
