Congo Boy (+ musical performance by Chris Kabs)
A special presentation combining crowd-pleaser film Congo Boy and a musical performance by Chris Kabs.
In Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, 17-year-old Robert dreams of becoming a musician. A Congolese refugee living with his four younger siblings, he is already carrying responsibilities beyond his years. But music gives Robert another way of seeing the world.
He writes his own songs, raps about his experiences and performs in the nightclubs of Bangui, where his energy and talent draw enthusiastic crowds. His music becomes a way of giving voice to the realities he cannot otherwise express.
Drawing on his own experiences as a Congolese refugee and musician, director Rafiki Fariala creates a deeply personal coming-of-age story in which vibrant music performances, gentle humour and a naturalistic young cast constantly convey an infectious sense of possibility.
Bradley Fiomona was awarded in Cannes for his performance as Robert, whose determination, his affection for his siblings and his belief in his own music give the film an irresistible warmth. A moving and uplifting portrait of a young artist following his dream.
