Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
When an unhinged American general orders a rogue nuclear strike on the Soviet Union, world leaders gather in the Pentagon War Room to avert disaster. They discover a hidden Soviet doomsday device will automatically trigger global annihilation.
United States Air Force Brigadier General Jack D. Ripper orders his executive officer, Group Captain Lionel Mandrake (an exchange officer from the Royal Air Force), to put the base on alert, confiscate all privately owned radios from base personnel and issue "Wing Attack Plan R" to the planes of the 843rd Bomb Wing. The planes, armed with thermonuclear bombs, are two hours from their targets inside the Soviet Union. In the War Room at the Pentagon, General Buck Turgidson briefs President Merkin Muffley and other officers about "Plan R".
Screen legends Peter Sellers (x 3 roles!), George C. Scott and Sterling Hayden are just some of the fantastic cast leading Kubrick’s hilarious political satire black comedy, which is widely considered one of the greatest and most influential films ever made and is preserved in the American National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Unless a certain leader with dangerously immense powers takes notice and blacklists this fierce critique of the Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) theory. Our lives literally depend on the aforementioned madman's whims and threats to unleash full MADness. But for now let’s laugh about it, and learn not to worry.
