Look Back (Rukku Bakku)
Hirokazu Kore-eda brings Tatsuki Fujimoto’s beloved manga Look Back to live action, following aspiring artists Fujino and Kyomoto as rivalry gradually gives way to friendship, collaboration and a shared devotion to drawing.
Kore-eda approaches the material with characteristic delicacy, finding emotional weight in small gestures, silences and the everyday rituals of friendship. The result is intimate and visually attentive, balancing the exuberance of youthful creativity with a growing awareness of its fragility.
It is also a remarkably faithful adaptation: the 2024 anime remains a clear point of reference, with Kore-eda retaining much of its structure and visual sensibility while adding the texture and performances of live action.
