Cork International Film Festival (CIFF) and Docs Ireland are delighted to announce seven new projects for Year Seven of its cross-border Documentary Talent Development Programme, IGNITE-Docs.
IGNITE-Docs is a talent development programme directed towards emerging Irish and Northern Irish documentary filmmakers embarking on their first or second non-fiction feature film. It is a cross-border partnership that aims to foster a new generation of cinematic documentary filmmakers, an innovative collaboration between the island’s first and newest film festivals, Cork International Film Festival and Docs Ireland.
The participants and projects for Year Seven are:
A Healing Thread
Director: Jessica Marcy
Producer: Grace Odumosu
Born in a mother and baby home, a beloved Dublin tailor fights to uncover his identity and learn what happened when his Irish mother became pregnant out of wedlock with his Nigerian father over eight decades earlier. As he prepares to travel to Nigeria, he seeks to heal and mend his ancestry for himself and the other institutionalized African-Irish children.
Ainm na dTonnta
Director: Kev L Smith
A cinematic journey along Ireland’s Atlantic surf coast, uncovering the Irish place names, folklore and people behind some of the country’s most iconic waves.
The Artificial Kingdom
Director: James Moran O’Brien
Believing the dawn of artificial superintelligence is imminent, six unconnected individuals prepare for the end of humanity as we know it. Half foresee utopia, while the others brace for the apocalypse.
Close Enough
Director: Colin Peppard
Producer: Claudia McCormick
A Harry Styles tribute artist dreams of more during an off-season in Benidorm, until an ambitious newcomer arrives determined to become the first tribute to a tribute.
The Devil in the Dancehall
Director: Paula Rouse
In rural Ireland, an award-winning artist is determined to re-build a dancehall in the very field where it was ruthlessly burned to the ground 100 years ago. But conservative opponents of change still exist, and the attempt to right a historical wrong becomes a contemporary battle for inclusive community spaces.
Educating Bernie
Director: Ken Mac Giolla Phádraig
At 77, Bernie Fitzpatrick is starting a Masters after being denied an education as a child. Her filmmaker son sets out to understand why.
Something in the Air
Director: Niamh Barry
Transgender storm chaser Raychel Sanner spends her life pursuing tornadoes, but as political tensions rise across America, she finds herself navigating storms far beyond those in the sky.
