Our cinematic tour of Europe continues this month: dive into the Aegean Sea with a contemporary programme of Greek films guest-curated by our friends at Drama International Short Film Festival, Greece’s leading short film festival (tickets and passes are available to book now), and our ‘Short Shorts from Europe’ screening will celebrate Europe Day. Working towards our 67th edition of CIFF in November, our Festival programmers are busy assessing films and attending festivals, including the Festival de Cannes and Marché du Film later this month.

CIFF FILM CLUB: EUROPEAN SHORTS SEASON TICKETS & PASSES ON SALE NOW

Lose yourself in films from faraway shores and enjoy a special programme guest-curated by our friends at Drama International Short Film Festival in Greece for our second programme in the CIFF Film Club: European Shorts Season. Join us on Tuesday, 31st May at 6pm at The Gate Cinema, Cork City.

CIFF Film Club audiences are invited to the Franciscan Well Bar on the North Mall following the screenings for a friendly and informal get-together to discuss each month’s shorts programme with members of the CIFF programming team while enjoying an exclusive 2-for-1 cocktail deal (available on presentation of your Film Club e-ticket).

TICKETS AND SEASON PASSES
CIFF’s European Shorts Season takes place on the last Tuesday of the month until September with our partner The Gate Cinema. Why not check out a 3 x Film Club Season Pass for €30 (€27 Conc.) allowing more bang for your buck while discovering Europe from your cinema seat.

  • May Programme: Greece (31st May) – A delightful selection of Greek films from Drama International Short Film Festival, Greece. Book Now.
  • June Programme: Cyprus (28th June) – International Short Film Festival of Cyprus selected short films. Book Now.
  • July Programme: Poland (26th July) – A collection of great short films from Krakow Film Festival, Poland. Book Now.
  • August Programme: Germany (30th August) – A riveting pick of films from Film Festival Cologne, Germany, Cork’s twinned city. Book Now.
  • September Programme: EFA (27th September) – The season will conclude in September with a sequel programme of shorts nominated for the European Film Awards, selected by CIFF programmers. Book Now.

EUROPE DAY 2022: ‘SHORT SHORTS FROM EUROPE’ MONDAY, 9TH MAY

As part of the French Presidency of the EU Council and to mark Europe Day on May 9th, the EUNIC Ireland Network (European Union National Institutes for Culture) in association with Cork International Film Festival is delighted to present a free screening of its 2021 Short Shorts from Europe programme in The Gate Cinema, Cork City at 6.30pm, Monday, May 9th.

Introduced by the French Ambassador to Ireland, H.E. Mr Vincent Guérend, you are invited to enjoy a variety of genres from contemporary, cutting-edge filmmakers with films from Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain and the UK. Shorts from Cork International Film Festival, the IFI and Limerick School of Art and Design are also part of the selection.

After the screening, you will be asked to vote for your favourite film using your phone. A full list of shorts is available here.

Our regular deadline for CIFF2022 submissions is nearly upon us. Submit your features, documentaries, and short films via the online submission platform Film Freeway by Friday, 20th May.

New Italian Cinema Events (N.I.C.E.) presents the Italian Film Festival in Ireland, launching in Dublin on May 18th and in The Gate Cinema, Cork on May 19th, showcasing films from some of the best directors in Italy.

EFA YOUNG AUDIENCE AWARD 2022

Call for Submissions: As an official category of the European Film Awards, the European Film Academy Young Audience Award is presented to the European director(s) of a European film that addresses an audience between 12 and 14 years of age. Submission Deadline: 31st May 2022.
CIFF is the official Irish representative for Short Film Candidate for the European Film Awards 2022 and is proud to present films nominated for the EFAs as part of the CIFF Film Club: European Shorts Season.
