Cork Film Festival Announces Opening & Closing Night Galas

Irish Premiere of ‘Ordinary Love’ to Open the 64th Cork Film Festival

We are thrilled to announce that the much-anticipated drama ‘Ordinary Love’, starring Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville, will have its Irish premiere at the 64th Cork Film Festival’s Opening Gala on Thursday, 7 November. Based on a script by award-winning Irish playwright Owen McCafferty, ‘Ordinary Love’ will launch an outstanding 2019 programme of over 120 feature films presented at Ireland’s first and largest film festival.

Speaking about the Opening Night Gala, Cork Film Festival Programme Director Michael Hayden described ‘Ordinary Love’ as “a filmmaking masterclass on every level. The script by playwright Owen McCafferty is smart and beautifully observed; the direction by Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn (Good Vibrations) is fittingly patient and unobtrusive; while the performances from Lesley Manville and Liam Neeson are honest, touching and impeccable.”

‘The Other Lamb’ Announced as Closing Night Gala

Direct from its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival, we are delighted to announce that the Irish premiere of new Irish-Belgian drama, ‘The Other Lamb’, will close the 64th Cork Film Festival’s 11 day programme on Sunday 17 November. The film stars Raffey Cassidy, Michiel Huisman and Denise Gough.

Written by fantasy author Catherine S McMullen, Małgorzata Szumowska’s (‘Body’, CFF2015; ‘Mug’, CFF2018) unsettling English-language debut is a haunting, visionary drama and a timely rage against patriarchy. Hidden away from civilisation, an all-female cult serves its spiritual leader, a man known as Shepherd (Michiel Huisman). Selah (Raffey Cassidy) has grown into a teenager as part of this self-sufficient community, but as she approaches adulthood, pervasive doubts about her faith inspire dark, bloody visions. As the Shepherd leads his flock on a journey to find a new paradisal retreat, Selah is shocked to learn what her role in the group is to become.
